IMARTA RESEARCH PROJECT 2017 : “INTERACTIVE READING SPACE”

IMARTA: Seminar “Research Project : Interactive Reading Space” by Realrich Sjarief (RAW Architecture)

Realrich Sjarief giving lecture to Tarumanegara student about the importance of reading book in architectural carrier.

From study conducted by Central Connecticut State University in the US, the problem of lack of reading motivation in Indonesia has ranked us 59 out of 60 country in reading abilities. This risked to inability of critical thinking or even understanding new form of information. In architectural field, Realrich had given example of how reading might supports us in design process. He illustrate his point from historical perspective, that the dynamic of linguistic field has brought us to post-modern age, in which we have to be able to gain our own understanding, deliberately, without subjugated to institution of man. Then, he gave example of reading space, as one alternative solution to invoke reading habit to community. Reading space, he thought of, is not limited to traditional form of  library. It has to change, and moreover, becoming a place to wonder and discuss. It can no longer be only repository of book, but a hybrid program that based on any activities that trigger our curiosity to learn.

Bermain Layang – layang

Kemarin saya sedang selesai makan pagi menunggu course dari OMAH. Anak – anak kecil datang, menghampiri, menagih “om layang – layangnya mana ?” Saya ingat kira – kira satu bulan yang lalu ketika puasa, saya pernah menjanjikan untuk membelikan layang – layang supaya mereka bisa bermain. Gara – gara kesibukan, saya jarang bertemu mereka.

saya mulai tanya latar belakang mereka.
satu orang namanya ojon masih TK, satu orang namanya Dillah kelas 1 SD, satu orang namanya Lehan kelas 1 SD, dan satu orang namanya Jasmin kelas 2 SD.

Lehan melapor, om ini si Dillah omongnya jorok sama kotor, saya tanya lo ngomong apa sama anak – anak lain ? ini om dia ngomongnya bang*at dan a*nj*ng sehari – hari. saya bilang eh lo ngapain ngomong jorok begitu lo sekolah ngga ? Mending ngomong “kucing” lebih keren. Mereka pun tertawa,

Ramai – ramai mereka bilang terima kasih.

Lain.

Sanjida Amir -BRAC University

I am writing to express my interest for an internship position at your firm to work under you. I am currently a fourth year student (studio viii) of architecture discipline at BRAC Univeristy, Dhaka, Bangladesh .I have gathered extensive knowledge and efficiency from my course and would like to apply those for my internship.

In addition, creativity and innovativeness in design and intrinsic skill on analytical and conceptual sketches is the main reason what caught my mind and thus persuaded me to work at R A W Architecture.

Nevertheless, architecture for me is focusing more on minute details of life, living and their synchronization with human nature, where it reflects all the insightful observations concerned to what dwells inside it.It's like a music consits of flow, rhythm, harmony, repetition, hierarchi etc.

I am a quick learner, hardworking and ambitious person motivated by goal achievement, having a multi-perspective approach towards a situation. However, nothing provides me with more satisfaction than bringing contribution to the success of a project. And I am always thoughtful of the role architects play and the correct justice to our passion. Moreover,I am lookibg for an opportunity as the next step toward my architecture.

Looking forward to work in a team and enviornment that is challenging, innovative and motivating to achieve new possibilities.

I am a very friendly person who loves to treavel and to know and learn about new cultures.Indonesia is one of those countries where i want to go and curious about its history, tradition, culture, art and architecture.

Ishani Dayal -SMVDU University

Respected Sir/ Madam

I am Ishani Dayal, student of architecture and currentlyenrolled to a B.Arch. program in India. I am presently pursuing my 6th semester of B.Arch. studies and need to get through with an internship of minimum 100 days in reputed Architectural firm as an academic requirement. Therefore, I am writing in response to the internship opportunity in RAW Architecture and would love the chance to be able to work with RAW Architects Team.I, as a student have a pretty wide range of work that constitute my current portfolio. I have extensively experimented with the work, I have done. My taste for exploration takes me through to various multi-disciplinary sets of work. A major portion of my design thinking period is consumed by the anticipation of the outcomes and the influence of my design in the greater world and that broader aspect in the past 3 years. I have explored many things and developed the skills by looking around and experimenting. I got the information about Raw Architecture from one of our senior- Sneha Duary, who wanted to go there, but due to some of her personal problem, she couldn’t make it. As an intern among interns, I have expectations to enrich and widen my theoretical and practical architecture knowledge in every project I will assigned to. Therefore, I can compare and integrate architecture knowledge and wisdom between what I have been pursuing in the university with the ones I will collect in R.A.W. With great determination and efforts.

I will continuously encourage myself to fulfil expectations from R.A.W from an intern, with my best efforts.
I am very grateful to have the opportunity to be an intern at the studio RAW architecture. I hope that after my internship, I can get many knowledge in architecture, especially the use of architectural applications in real work, and increase me in making the idea of designing a project. I used to using AutoCAD software for 2D image review, Sketch Up for review 3D modelling. And Lumion for review animation. And I wish I could learn to work with the team, time management, and the responsibility in work.

I am looking for an opportunity where I can learn and enhance my professional knowledge.

Regina Chandra -Melbourne University

This internship was my first work experience, and I am grateful that I’ve got the opportunity to do my internship here. The office has helped me to develop constructive working habit that I could carry on to wherever I will go next, be it in context of professional ethics or design method. The interns were also not treated only as a mere helper to lessen the burden of work. The associates and the designers were very patient in guiding us, and despite lacking the skill to do certain job they still entrusted us to do it so we could learn, although it means extra job for them to teach and sometimes to fix the work. Knowing how some office would consider teaching beginners as bothersome job makes me appreciate it even more. The people at RAW has helped me to make the transition of learning from formal architecture education to the real practice as easy as possible, although I am also a bit wary now as I have unrealistic expectation of how an architecture office should be like.

In addition to learning a lot about architecture, I have learned as much from the people I met during the past 4 months. On one of our weekly monday meeting I remember Kak Rich said that if you got stuck, you should be careful because it could be an indication that you are being autistic and only going around in your own world. As an introvert, I have probably got stuck and going around in my own world for quite some time, and working here was a quite good wake up call to venture into new things that I was not aware of before. Everyone I encountered here has something new and positive to teach, and working together with them for long hours gives you no choice but to pick up some of their contagious passion and enthusiasm.

Finally, thank you for the valuable learning opportunities and for letting me be a part of this unique office during the 4 months of my internship. Keep growing, keep teaching and keep being inspiring

While widely used in countryside vernacular, bamboo remains underexplored in an urban setting: Jakarta architecture studio Raw is making great advances in proving its flexibility and eco-friendliness with experiments it carries out in its in-house workshop. Other than being a visual hallmark of tropical modernism, cooling …more in here
